Not to mention that what you’re wearing to keep warm can also be wreaking havoc on your poor, over-dried skin. 1. Be mindful of your shower time

It’s no secret that taking a long, hot shower can harm your skin and dry it out. Shower for too long and you’llremove important oils from your skin,” says dermatologist Dr. Anjali Mahto to FashionBeans. Mahto recommends keeping your shower short and warm. It’s best to start the day by giving your skin a fighting chance by not over drying it. While you’re in there, try to avoid using soap, which can actually be your worst enemy not only during the normal months of the year, but also during the winter months.

2. Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize

As the weather conditions change, so too should your skin care routine. WebMD recommends finding an ointment moisturizer that’s oil-based, rather than water-based because the oil will create a protective layer on the skin that will be able to retain more moisture than a cream or lotion. Many lotions that are labeled as “night creams” are actually oil-based, which will ultimately be beneficial as they allow moisture to build overnight.
